With the cold weather also comes the risk of water damage from burst pipes.

It's hard to believe it's 2012 already. With January here it is important to remember that with the cold weather also comes the risk of burst pipes and the resulting water damage than can often be quite severe. Remember to keep your pipes insulated, keep the rim joist well insuated and try to keep your basement and home warm enough to prevent it from freezing. It may also be a good idea to invest in a freeze alarm to alert you if conditions are getting to a dangerous point (especially important in second homes).

If you already have burst pipes and water damage then do not wait to call. Every minute matters and damage will progress very quickly if water damage mitigation is not started right away. Mold damage will occur in the winter just like in the warmer months and sensitive building materials must be dried quickly to prevent the need for removal.
